Oscars 2025: Adrien Brody Triumph Over Chalamet in Best Actor Race

Adrien Brody won the Best Actor award at the 97th Academy Awards for his performance in “The Brutalist”. This year’s nominees included Ralph Fiennes for “Conclave”, Sebastian Stan for “The Apprentice”, Timothée Chalamet for “A Complete Unknown”, and Colman Domingo for “Sing Sing”. Many predictions for the Oscars 2025 had Chalamet favored to win Best Actor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan, especially given the controversy surrounding Brody and the use of AI in the making of “The Brutalist”.

Brody has won the Academy Award for Best Actor, competing against Timothée Chalamet and a remarkable group of nominees. This marks Brody’s second win in this category, his first being in 2003 for his portrayal of Władysław Szpilman in Roman Polanski’s film, The Pianist. With this win, Brody joins an elite group of actors who have received the Best Actor award more than once, including Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, and Anthony Hopkins.

Due to the controversy surrounding The Brutalist’s AI elements and its lengthy three-and-a-half-hour runtime, there was skepticism about how the film would perform at the Academy Awards, despite receiving extensive critical acclaim. Nevertheless, Adrien Brody won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of László Tóth, even with Timothée Chalamet being the favorite. In previous years, Chalamet’s performance as Bob Dylan would have likely been the clear winner over Brody, but this year the Oscars largely defied expectations.

In addition to Brody’s win, “The Brutalist” also received Oscars for Best Achievement in Cinematography and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score). The film’s length did not deter the majority of voters from recognizing Brody and other key aspects of the movie. “The Brutalist” has already generated significant buzz, and the conversation surrounding it is expected to grow in the coming months, increasing interest in watching it.

Brody is a deserving winner for his exceptional performance in *The Brutalist*. Winning the Academy Award for Best Actor more than two decades after his first win in this category is a testament to his talent and his ability to continually take on challenging and rewarding roles. It will be intriguing to see what Brody does next in his career and whether he can match Lewis’s record of winning Best Actor for three different films. Following *The Brutalist*, Brody has the opportunity to further solidify his already impressive reputation with the projects he chooses next.
